Look what I can do!!!
07.05.04 (6:18 pm)   [edit]
So, umm... wow!

[url=http://www.presencemultimedia...]clicky click![/url]

(I haven't managed to do it yet successfully :?)

meeeeeeltiiiiiinng (and other random thoughts)
07.05.04 (1:54 pm)   [edit]
It's so freaking hot out... I am about at the point where I'll turn on the AC... I've resisted so far because there's a really nice breeze blowing and I love fresh air... just so hot... must be 95 or so with the humidity... ugh.

Had a wonderful day off from work today, managed to catch up on some school work, and sorted tonnes of clothes -- with lots more in the charity pile, and lots more to add I'm sure... I've decided if I don't know what's in a drawer, box, cupboard, whatever -- I DON'T NEED IT! I only really need the shit I use regularly. I loved it when I relocated and hadn't received all my stuff in a way, I only had the necessities. And the house was a lot easier to keep clean. :)

On another note, an online friend of mine had some gastric bypass (or something similar) surgery about 18 months ago and she's lost a lot of weight. Too much. She went from 330 to umm... 130... and still wants to lose more. She's starting to look like lara flynn boyle, isn't eating right, but denies there's a problem. Even her therapist has mentioned anorexia, but she won't hear it. I don't know how to get through to her. I've considered emailing her husband, but he sees it too, so what is the point in that :/ She looked great around 145 (she's 5'9"), but now she just looks sickly.

Yaaa's and grrr's
07.04.04 (8:44 pm)   [edit]
So I finished my homework for tonight now, yaaaa! I might even read ahead and get a jump on Wednesday's work... maybe ;)

Now the grrr part... I was setting up some new equipment for my AV system earlier and I had various units pulled out and was rewiring things, and my DVD player was on its side... AND NOW A DISC IS STUCK! ACK! It must have dislodged, I forgot it was in there... so now it won't open, and won't play.

I don't know what I'm going to do to get it it dislodged. I'm almost at the point where I'll get the screwdrivers out and take it apart, I'm just worried I won't get it back together again. And it's my new progressive scan all region DVD player :(

Any ideas are welcome!!

Bah humbug and all that!

I had never realized just how loud fighter jets were until they flew overhead yesterday... well, nearby, a couple of miles away by the looks of it but I still thought something was coming straight in my direction and the windows rattled and shook. There are loads of fighter jets flying around me now for an airshow a few miles away. Quite loud they are. I'd love to have gone, I admit, as I love things that fly, and the idea of seeing helicopters, if they had any, would be thrilling. Especially Apaches :D

I don't care much for the 4th of July tho... it's not that I'm against the idea of it, or anti-American or anything like that.

I am happy for people who can celebrate and have fun, I just hate that particular day. I have for umm.. 12 years now, since my Mom died on 4th of July in 1992. Try as I might I cannot seem to bring myself past the sadness this time of year and go out and have fun anymore, so I'm content to be here, with my thoughts and memories and regrets -- and ever fluxuating mood. I choose to leave the festivies to people who are not marking a horrible anniversary with this date, and while I considered doing something in celebration this year with friends, I decided not to chance having a breakdown and as a result bringing down everyone's mood (even for a while) on what is for most a great, happy, joyous occassion.

I still wish I could see the airshow and helicopters though.

Tonight the fireworks will cap it off. I do enjoy them from my apartment, I have a 270 degree view from a high floor and can see them for miles in all directions.

And then there are the idiots who think they're pyrotechnic experts. Two nights ago someone was lighting off tonnes from the sidewalk at my corner for almost an hour... after about 45 minutes I'd had enough and reported them once I noticed the entire neighborhood was covered in a cloud of smoke as a result. Apparently I was not alone, as the dispatcher knew the intersection of my street when I called and asked if they're illegal in the city. They either ran out or it took the police a while to arrive, because it became silent 10 minutes after that.

I saw the aftermath of their little stupidity yesterday when I walked to the store and saw literally a 10x20 foot area full of the burnt wrapper remnants and stinking of sulfer. Oh well.

I can appreciate some people having responsible fun, but I don't care how careful a person is, an urban district with apartments and private homes in the CITY is not the place to do it. At least go to a park of field. Karma will get the stupider of the bunches and they'll inevitably injure themselves or destroy thier own property and not the proprety of others (hopefully).

Last year an entire arsenal went off on the ground in my parking lot and shit was flying everywhere hitting all the buildings, including mine, that faced the parking lot. Apparently launching the fireworks was too much trouble, or they were too drunk or too stupid (or a combination of all) so they were set off on the ground. Umm..yea.

Anyway, stupid idiots aside I have a great vantage point for explosions in the sky and look forward to tonight's celebrations from the comfort of my living room. :)

Now, back to the homework, deadlines loom...

Yaaa! A facelift!
07.04.04 (12:56 am)   [edit]
Woo! Okay, got the new look to go with the new name ;)

Aaah... an identity, of sorts.

Now it's time to hit the books and get some homework done, lol

Insert Title Here -- Done!
07.03.04 (9:22 pm)   [edit]
Okay! I finally thought of a name for my blog...

"On a clear day... I can see myself for miles"

It's a line from a song from my favorite musical, Taboo on Broadway... I was browsing templates and I saw a blue sky in one and it hit me like a brick! BAM! So now I need to design a template to match. Woo, it has a name ;)

SELECT * FROM umm... hmm...
06.30.04 (4:59 pm)   [edit]
Well I don't know. I'm just learning databases you see... I should be doing my homework assignment now instead of talking to you dear blog... but a few mins probably won't hurt ;)

So I can't decide if I should go to NYC at 7am or 2pm... 7am means leaving for the airport so freaking early, and I'll be tired and cranky when I get there, and I will have more homework and rushing to do before hand but it means I could DEFINATELY catch an evening show, otherwise I won't be able to see a show until the following night. Ho humm... what to do... I think I'll go book my flights and we'll see what I picked later after this week's assignments are safely uploaded and tucked away for the professor to review :D

Apparently I was on crack!
06.28.04 (7:53 pm)   [edit]
Some days I think I was on crack or drunk when I decided to get a Masters degree. I mean what in the hell was I thinking? How did all logic and reason escape me during the entire applicaton and registration process that it never occured to me that this was going to be the great sucker-upper-of-most-waki ng-hours-when-not-working ??

I'm now half done, and just about finished paying for it, but geezzz... I know I should be happy, thrilled, but it's so much damn work. I just finished Java. Fun fun. Actually that was a lot of fun, but now I'm into databases, and I have already registered to start software engineering immediately following this and then project management. What does that mean to you dear blog? It means that I won't have a single day off between courses until the Christmas holiday enforced break. Ugh.

It used to be that we got about 2 weeks between classes, but apparently that was too kind, and now we've got ummm... no time. Not a day. One class ends on a Wednesday the next begins Thursday. (Our weeks run from Thursday to Wednesday at University of Liverpool).

I need to take time off work so I can just relax guilt free for a day or two. Thank GOD it's a long weeked (tho I'm using my "extra" day there to go drink at a 4th of July party that starts on the morning of the 3rd! It will be my first real 4th of July celebration (I'm Canadian and new to the US) and I'm kinda looking forward to it. I'm a bit of a worry wart when it comes to fire, so I hope I have enough gin & tonics or martinis to chill and leave the explosives, and thier safety, to those in the know and I won't stress over it, me hopes :)

But it will also be the first time in 12 years that I won't spend 4th of July alone, or with my brother, crying and moping and being miserably sad as we remember our mother who died 12 years ago this year on the 4th of July.

In Canada having a bad anniversary on that date isn't "so" bad. It's not something that easily slips unnoticed thanks to the close proximity to the US, but its' bearable. Last year was really hard. It was my first year here, and while everyone else was celebrating and throwing parties all I wanted to do was stay home and be by myself. It was the first year without being around my family at that time of year. It was rough. Perhaps I'm growing, I don't know.

This time of year is normally hard, and I have a few breakdowns from time to time, the worse ones usually very close to the date in question, but it's the first time I've ever made plans on this date since she died. I am sure I'll have a breakdown at some point this weekend, but I hope it will be minor, and I know many friends will be around to pour me another drink and make me laugh and get past the sad moment or two.

Anyway, I'm depressing myself... so back to school... wtf was I thinking. I have another 30 pages to read in the textbook, and to install the database on my laptop, and then I can start my homework assignment, due in 2 days, after finally finishing this weeks participation and mini-assignments. Ugh.

Well, I guess I should get to it... Somebody slap me the next time I have a "brilliant" idea again!!!!

Ack!
06.26.04 (9:41 am)   [edit]
Oooiivey, did I ever oversleep! I had plans to do all these things today... and I am just getting up... and it's almost 1pm! Oops... I best get busy I guess or none of it will be accomplished!

First stop is to pickup my Clinton biographies I ordered -- with tickets to a signing :D

A nerve or a dork, or both?
06.25.04 (2:52 pm)   [edit]
So I went to the doctor about the pain in my hand finally. It's been hurting on the side for about 3 weeks. I was worried it was as a result of an mole I'd had removed years ago -- I mean maybe they didn't get the whole thing or something? I dunno... So off I go... la dee dee...

I go to a family care clinic near my house. It's owned and run by the hospital nearby (we even have to wear dumbass bracelets while we're there, hospital policy). Anyway, there were a few mothers and babies, and one toddler with permagrin on his face. I normally don't like kids much, but this kid was non-stop smiles, and sorta contagious.

Then in walks cheap white trash with a cough. I moved when she sat in front of me, another woman beside me moved. She didn't "look" that sick, but had a horrendously gross cough and kept snorting up snot like a old nasty bull would snort. Plus... she was filthy! Hello! Bathe much? You could at least comb your hair (it was all matted) or wear a CLEAN SHIRT when you come to the doctor... or a bra to hold your sagging, nasty 52 EEE breasts that sit around your waist. Ick.

She did decide to groom herself while there brushing her nasty ass hair in the wiating area. I'm glad I moved.

So anyway, I saw this doctor, he did some reflex and other test shit, and said I have a pinched nerve in my hand, and prescribed some anti-imflammatory crap for 4-6 weeks so it can releive the pressure and heal (?) if that fails it's the onset of carpal tunnel. Stupid computer. So it's a nerve, or I'm a dork :P

I'm going to go shopping to help me in my misery now. I should start reading my textbook for the databases course I just started yesterday... but... it will still be there later tonight. But stores will be closed! Ha... Queen of rationalization ;)

and phew! It's probably just

How did...
06.25.04 (5:23 am)   [edit]
people ever survive mornings without coffee? I mean, I can understand no Red Bull, but no coffee? It's no wonder the average life expectancy was so low without a daily boost of Java :)

In other news... I'm at work, fun fun... my task list today is enormous, and I have to leave early for a doctor's appt... so I guess I need to be doing less of this, and more of that... over there... see... aaah, nevermind! Laters!

losing my virginity
06.24.04 (4:50 pm)   [edit]
Okay, okay, so maybe the title is a bit much for losing my "tBlog" virginity and making my first post... but it's a title ;)

Of all the blogs I've encountered and played with for a few days, maybe a week or two over the years, this one is by far the most feature rich -- and it's free! SO i'm thinking I might stick with this one!

A little about me? Hmm... I like photography, am an electronics junkie, like games (simulation or gamecube stuff), movies, music, theatre, nature...

I work fulltime for an online marketing company and I am also getting a Masters of Science in IT online (not as easy as you'd think!)... Hopefully this will be my sounding board, a place to vent, rant, dream or oooooh and aaah about things.

If you're reading this then welcome reader :)
